North Geelong Receives Stronger Communities Grant

North Geelong Warriors held its customary pre-match derby lunch ahead of kick-off against sister-club St Albans Saints on Saturday the 28th of May.

Among those in attendance was the Federal Member for Corio the Hon. Richard Marles. The purpose of his attendance was to reacquaint himself with the friendly faces of the club and to make an announcement of a successful grant application for the Warriors.

The Stronger Communities Programme is a new programme designed to deliver social benefits across Australia. The Government initiative is a two-year programme, which commenced in the 2015-16 financial year. It was set up to fund small capital projects in local communities in each of the 150 Federal Electorates, up to a maximum of $20,000 for successful submissions.

Mr Marles proudly announced that North Geelong, a Club which has accomplished so much in its history, providing a constant source of community wellbeing, has been successful in obtaining $20,000 to aid its development of a third pitch at its Gibbons Road home base.

North Geelong president Vlado Džajkić warmly accepted the terrific news and thanked Mr Marles for his support of the Club over the years, particularly in its submission for this grant.

Both gentlemen strongly reinforced the need for further funding, support and club development, referring to the amount of time that the Club had put in to get funding recognition, iterating that it is well deserved. The two also touched on their excitement to observe the rewards that the investment will reap through the Club’s well regarded junior development football programs.

North Geelong will commence action for a third pitch after it wraps up its current major development at Elcho Park; the new change room facility.

The completion of the change room facility and commencement of work on a third pitch at Elcho Park will provide a vibrant feel around the club in 2017, coming at an ideal time with the historic North Geelong celebrating its 50th year of existance next year.

North Geelong wishes The Hon Mr Marles all the very best in the upcoming Federal Election, set for the 2nd of July, 2016.
