North Geelong Warriors FC is delighted to announce the acquisition of Ivan Grgić for the 2017 NPL Victoria season!
Grgić joins North Geelong having come through the youth system of Melbourne Knights, going on to make over 50 senior appearances for the Somers Street-based club. 20-year-old central defender Grgić will add significant pedigree to the Warriors defensive stocks, bringing top-flight experience with him to Elcho Park, despite his tender years.
Seeking a change of scenery, Grgić stated his delight on securing his future for the upcoming season. “I’m really happy to have signed with North Geelong,” Grgić said. “It’s good to have it all sorted going into pre-season. Leaving Melbourne Knights, I was keen to stay at a Croatian-backed club and so it’s great to have joined North Geelong.”
On hearing of the player’s availability, North Geelong senior head coach Micky Čolina jumped at the chance to sign the player: “I haven’t played under Micky before, but I’ve watched North Geelong play and I like his style of football.”
Making the same move Nicholas Jurčić made three years’ prior, the winger then going on to become a key part of the Warriors side, Grgić stated that it is an encouraging example to look at. “Jura and I were teammates in the reserves side at Melbourne Knights. It shows that if you’re good enough, you will make things work.”
Grgić has ambitious goals for the 2017 season. “On an individual level, my first goal is to break into the starting XI and to play as much as I can. As a team, the goal is to stay in the division.”
Grgić is North Geelong’s first new signing of the 2017 season and joins Matthew Townley, Vito Cichello, Darren Lewis, Anthony Banovac, Matthew Thorne, Josh Pugh, Nicholas Jurčić, Daniel Žilić and Michael Anderson as players that have committed to the club.
