North Geelong Warriors

Round 13 Preview

In Round 13 of the NPL Victoria 2 season, league-leaders North Geelong Warriors FC welcomes regional counterpart Ballarat Red Devils SC to Elcho Park on Saturday afternoon at 3.00pm.

North Geelong is coming off a scoreless stalemate with second-placed Moreland Zebras, a somewhat depleted squad having to dig deep and absorb a lot of pressure in the top of the table clash.

The defensive unit stood up to the task, though, and continued their clean sheet record, now up to 452 minute without a goal conceded in the league and the Warriors unbeaten since Round 3.

North Geelong have something of an unhappy record against Ballarat though. The last two clashes between the two sides came in Cup competitions in 2011 and 2012. On both occasions, despite competing in a higher division than the Red Devils, the Warriors were knocked out at the Red Devils’ previous home base of Trekado Park.

The home side had to do without Michael Anderson and Matthew Thorne last weekend and will have to do the same this weekend, with Anderson still overseas and Thorne serving the second of his two match suspension.

Despite a turbulent off-season and a shaky opening period, Ballarat have recovered and have entered a very fine patch of form over the last month or so.

The match is set to be another Elcho Park blockbuster so make your way down and support the lads in Red, White and Blue!
