Warriors Continue Elcho Park Dominance

North Geelong Warriors FC continued its strong home form on Saturday afternoon, when it ground out a 1-0 victory against a resolute Murray United FC in Round 10 of the NPL Victoria 2 season.

In-form striker Kene Eze capitalized on an erroneous back pass in the second half to tap home what later proved to be the game’s solitary goal to give the Warriors all three points.

The victory saw North Geelong move into equal top spot on the NPL2 West ladder, with league-leaders Moreland Zebras surprisingly losing out to the unfancied Springvale White Eagles on Friday night.

North Geelong head coach Micky Čolina sent out the same starting XI that came away with the chocolates against Moreland City seven days prior.

The distant visitors, who made a 350 kilometer trek out to Elcho Park, started out with Geoffrey Lino and Zac Walker in attack.

The first half was a battle in every sense of the word.

There were half chances to either side with neither the visiting Murray United nor the Lara-based North Geelong able to exert any extended spells of dominance.

United forward Lino caused some minor headaches for the North Geelong back four, with his physical presence and pace proving tough to deal with in moments, but Townley, Lewis and Zilic remained resolute.

With Eze then pinching a goal mid-way through the second half, the Warriors got away with the three points but without the confident performance they were looking for.

Despite the modest showing, North Geelong increased its impressive home run, which has now seen it go five games at Elcho Park without conceding a goal, four wins coming from those five games.

In the U20s fixture, North Geelong went down 3-0 to a quality United side.

Next week, North Geelong welcome cross-conference side Brunswick City FC to Elcho Park on Saturday the 7th of May, 2016 at 3.00pm.
